The Cape Concrete range of precast concrete
products is being expanded with the commissioning of new plant
capable of producing culverts of up to 2m span and pipes with
internal diameters of up to 2m, although the initial intention
with pipes is to step up the factory's capability to diameters
of 1,6m before commencing production of the "big boys".
Traditionally, Cape Concrete has been a
leading producer of 300mm to 600mm pipes in the Western Cape,
using a rising-core method of manufacture involving compacting
and vibration that excludes metal reinforcement. The new plant,
imported from Denmark, operates on a fixed-core principle.
